SIP, short for Session Initiation Protocol is an IP telephony signaling protocol used to establish, modify and terminate VOIP telephone calls. The Session Initiation Protocol simply provides interoperability between the various components of the telecommunications equipments as it is an open standard (vendor neutral) protocol. SIP is an IETF open standard scalable and extensible protocol for carrying voice, video and multimedia communications over the IP Network. To work around these limitations the classical solution is to use a SIP server interposed between A and B. A session could be a simple two-way telephone call or it could be a collaborative multi-media conference session. SIP (the Session Initiation Protocol) is a protocol used by some VoIP servers such as asterisk and ekiga.net. Normative References [RFC4575] Rosenberg, J., Schulzrinne, H., and O.
